Hi folks! New to the forum. I have a 1997 CV P71 with 102K miles. This has been an exceptional car. Just had a rod start knocking (probably a galled rod bearing). Rather than build the engine, I know where I can locally get a 2004 P71 engine w/20K on it. Will this engine work in the 1997 w/o problems (computer, EFI, sensors,etc.)? Thanks for your input. Tom

Hey ,
Short answer!! Not without a lot of modification.The 97 has coil packs(one for each bank of heads) and the 04 has a coils on each spark plug.Thats just one problem.If you want a low mileage engine with not alot of trouble. The year models 95-97 will fit right in. The mid 92-94 models had different intakes(which can be swapped) and the 92's that were made in early model year had a two bolt starter which did not hold up and in mid year production they swiched to a three bolt starter(these will not interchange with anything,unless you change the tranny also)Hope this helps!!!
