Poor family needs help on 1990 5.0 wagon

I am helping a family with their 1990 Ford Country Squire wagon (that was donated to them).

Engine: 5.0 F.I.

The car sat for about 6 years and was started only once a year.

I have done the following:

- new fuel pump and strainer
- new water temp sensor
- new water temp switch
- new coil, distr. cap and rotor

PROBLEM: the car has a super fast idle and sometimes slows down when engine light comes on.

Codes set:

23, 34, 91,63,34

Took the following parts to Autozone and all tested good:
- idle air
- map
- egr
- throttle (tps)

I unplugged the positive batt term to reset the codes.

I started it up and it died, repeated the process several times until it stayed running and then it established this super fast idle.

I am stumped. This family needs a good car and I need to get it running.

The car is in great shape and does run smooth, just too fast!

I appreciate any and all help.

Throttle cable sticking??? or Throttle body need cleaning?? (Use the proper cleaner or you can damage the walls of the throttle body)

Re: Poor family needs help on 1990 5.0 wagon

The cable seems fine.

I start the car, without touching the gas pedal and it runs for a bit then dies. About the 3rd start and the car assumes a very fast idle.

Not sure why the car thinks it needs to idle so fast.

Re: Poor family needs help on 1990 5.0 wagon - fixed

Problem fixed. The thottle position sensor was the part that caused the problem. Installed a new one and all is good. -Praise the Lord !!!

That old wagon had me beat! :)
