I am installing a 06 cv ifs into my 73 f100 and was wondering if anyone could help with a ps rack question. I am using a 06 p71 front suspension and the rack has a electric solenoid built into it. What is this solenoid for and would the rack work fine without this being hooked up? What years did this type of rack start? Is there a certain package this came with? Aftermarket shows no difference between police package or standard. Please Help!!!

That's a variable assist rack. The faster the vehicle goes, the less assist. It'll probably be to easy to steer without the system working. There may a way around that but I don't know of any. Maybe someone else has done that.
