Im newbie to site and want to do as much routine maintainence myself and have questions about doing this: Do I just drain the radiator or is it better to add a flushing tee into the system. If so Im not sure which heater hose to place the tee into. What is the procedure for this? sorry for such basic question but this is first time on 54K engine and I want to do it right.

If the coolant still looks nice and green (or tan), you can just drain it and add water, run it til hot, drain it and repeat. If it's pretty dirty, you can add the tee in the upper heater hose and flush it quicker. Here's a post to read too. Brown Antifreeze

Hi, do not do this: Years ago, actually several decades ago, I would buy cooling system cleaner in a can. It says to run it for an hour or two, but I would leave it in the system for about a week. Then I would park my car in the street, remove one heater hose from the heater core, let that hose hose hang down towards the street, and connect my garden hose to the heater core, turn the water on, start my engine and rev it up intermittantly for about thirty minutes. Or until only clear water came out of the heater hose draining into the gutter. Then re-conncet my hoses and add coolant. If you do this today, you will probably go to jail, but it really worked great.
