I'm looking at a 2000 Crown Vic LX. The car is a really good buy with only 43,000 actual miles for under $6 grand. I am very interested but I am wondering about the gas mileage as I drive a lot. My driving is 85%-90% highway. What kind of fuel mileage can I truly expect?

I get 14-16 in town (very short runs) and sometimes get 25-26 highway. Depends on how hard I push it.

I have a '00 CV with 125,000 miles on it. On a recent 3200 mile trip I averaged 26 with the cruise set on 67mph. The best was 28.5 and the worst was 25.0. This was with about 400 lbs. in the trunk with some mountain driving. Around town I get 16-17 but I drive pretty easy.

Id say an average is about 18/20 miles per gal with the old 98 I had. The 2006 seems to get about the same maybe 21, but then again it all depends on how fast you hit the peddle and if you quickly accelerate all the time and if you do a lot of stop and go, then it will run the fuel down.

No. It is a great deal I think, but my commute is 43 miles each way and I'm not sure I can pay for all that gas. But I am getting older and I need a comfortable car.

leftoverture, I'd stick with the larger car, I think as long as you accelerate normally, you will get some mileage. I have had 2 marquis that were both totaled out and I'm still here so I just bought a 3rd, but it is used 2006 with 45k. what I'm saying is that these larger cars are much safer and worth the extra money for them, but I hear you on the fuel cost. It hit me hard last year when we were near 4.00 a gallon. I dont know where you live, but here in san antonio the north park lincon mercury dealer always has plenty of used grand marquis at two used locations. I also know florida is known for being number 1 in grand marquis sales due to the fact that most people that own them are in the 50's plus in age and like the large size plus retired and can afford a new car every 3 years or so.

I sell Crown Victoria Interceptors and have personally owned and driven a 1998, 2002, and two 2003s. They all did between 18 and 22 and I am not easy on the gas at all. It might be better than the civs though because the police interceptors have better fuel management systems and they are made to be able to maintain decent mileage while being weighed down by all of the equipment thats loaded onto them.
