This one has me stumped. Ive got an 03 CV LX with the Auto Climate control.. I have an intermittent sound from under the dash that sounds like running water, or water going down the drain. Most of the time its only in the winter when using the heat. It is actually quite loud. Is this normal?? Do I have some sort of a drain plugged up?? Where should I start looking.
I had a Dodge truck that had the same noise you described. Started doing it after the cooling system was flushed. Had a couple people tell me it was air in the system. It never gave me any problems and the heat worked A-1 so I never looked into it any further. It made the noise til the day I sold it.
I did have a coolant flush and thermostat replaced a few years ago. Hmmm, I wonder?? The car blows heat like crazy, so that part is good. How would I go about getting the air out of the system if that is the problem?
A couple of years ago my '00 CV sat for a while as I waited to put in a new fuel pump. After getting the pump in, I noticed this 'running water' sound also (totally unrelated to the fuel pump,of course). It had been 2.5 months since I drove it, so I figured that the sound had been there all along but I just didn't remember. Anyway, my manual says to just keep running it (after a refill) and make sure the expansion tank stays full.
The instructions are for a Mercury but it seems the parts about removing the thermostat and the heater core hose would accomplish the bleeding on a CV also. I understand care needs to be taken when messing with the hose as the connection at the manifold is a weak spot.
I might just have them try to purge any air out of the system when it goes in for the A/C work in a couple weeks. See what my mechanic says. I am not even gonna mess with that heater hose myself... An intake is NOT an option at this point for me.
I've been thinking about adapting a CAST IRON intake manifold from my 8.2 Cummins motorhome engine to fit a 4.6! UPS would even have a hard time breaking it!
