is the smog pump for a 91 grand mark needed or can i remove it and a/c pump?

It is not needed for engine operrations but you will need a new belts for the engine.

I havnt been around for a while, my computer was down for a couple weeks but...
Ive always wondered what my smog pump did ?
mine was never connected (since I got it)

I wish I knew that too. I think it helps pump the unburnt gases that collect on the honeycomb catalatics convters to the back holes in the heads to burn the gases. Emissions are the extra gases in the exhaust that arn't carbon dioxid (I don't know if I spelled that right). I can't list the gases or mineroles, but they are harmful in large amounts.

The smog pump (or as ford likes to call it 'the thermactor system') is designed to pump fresh air into your exhaust so unburnt pollutants entering your converter have fresh air to allow them to burn into more harmless products. I've always wondered if hooking up an overdrive pulley to it would pump more fresh air than needed into the system and make it easier to pass emissions testing.

Really want to improve emissions, throw about $600 worth of MSD and Bosch Plat plugs, also better gas milage too.
