sorry to bring this up.

Some of you may or may not be aware of the fire that can take our cars. It is known that approx. 279,000 cars including town cars, marqs and vics can catch fire do to a faulty speed switch. Several cars catch fire do to the switch sticking and most happen after the cars have been sitting. Be aware.

Smile Not a huge worry as of yet

I believe, unless I am wrong... you need to get slammed very very hard with a nearly empty tank. I no longer have a ford, but I was always hit in the side (Calif morons running lights) and I usually had 1/2 to full tank. I wouldn't worry too much.

Actually it has to due with an engine fire from a sticking electrical device. The symptom you discribe is true as well. The stare of Arizona and several others are currently seeking compensation from ford for lost live of officers due to rear end collisions. But I spoke with Ada county sheriffs and they had an easy solution by moving the bolt so it wouldn't puncture the tank.
