Sqeaking When Shifting

Hello all,Im new here I just bought my first car 3 days ago its a 1999 Vic PI. I noticed some sqeaking form the car when i get on the gas 2/3 of the way. It will sqeal for a for about a have a sec then shift into second it only does it in first gear so i asume its the trans. can anyone help me out i would like to kno why it does that and wat can i do to fix it

Have you tried it in neutral? It could be the serpentine belt.

Yes ive done that it only does it when its in Drive. it will do it when im at a dead stop or slow enough to be in first gear.. The trans seems to be shifting properly it just it sqeaks or make a sqeakin noise before it gets outs first gear when im on it.

It would be hard to say without hearing it. There's still a chance that it's the belt. They're easy to remove. If you remove it and just drive a quick short distance to rule any of those components attached, plus the belt you could be sure. I've worked on at least a hundred from 93-2009 and have never had a convertor noise. These are police and Sherrif cars that are run hard. That doesn't mean it isn't the convertor but it would be unusual.

ok i will try that tomarrow its late in ga no sunlight. but i was conserned about the problem so i drive it just a min ago. i revved it in N no noise. put i D and when it shifted out of first around 40 it sqealled so when it was in second i went WOT and when it shfted into 3rd no noise. if that helps at all

I found out wat it wat that was squeaking. I took my car up to my local valvoline and the tech guy said it was the belt tensionor moving when ever it shifted. he said in old cars this can happen its ok for it to happen if there aint nothin wrong with the tensionor (mine is 10 years old with 155000mi on it and still runnin strong) thanks for your help i needed it
