I'm going mad!!! My '86 Mercury Grand Mar stalls. Your driving fine. Then all of a sudden the cars's dead. Sometimes it jerks like it's having a stroke. The mechanic keeps telling me everything is fine. Sometimes I'm low on gas. The mechanic says that shouldn't matter. Any help? It's very frustrating One minute you're driving fine then boom. Sometimes it shuts off so quietly you don't realize it.

So it stalls while driving or when you are stopped and have the brakes on it dies? But to me it sounds like your TFI module if it stops while driving.

I had an '87 Crn Vic do the same thing. Replace the TFI (Ignition) Module. They are cheap enough and simple to replace. Just be very gentle when wiggling it down off and reinstalling it into the distributer.

Hi Everyone,

It's almost a year later I still have the car! It still stalls. I drove about ten miles from my home. The car drove fine. I came out It wouldn't start. It turned over like it wanted to start but wouldn't. I waited ten minutes then it started. It also stalled a few weeks. Sometimes it jerks a little. Usually it just shuts off. I called road service the guy started it. Hewas nice he said get in I'll follow you just in case. After about half way he split. It made it home. I never mentioned the TFI to my mechanic. Shouldn't he know that! Also now after spending about 300.00 to fix the AC it's blowiwing warm air. I'm ready to get a new car. Are stalling and AC problems common on Grand Mar?
