Question Steering Binding '97 CV LX

91k miles on car. 2 problems. Binding steering and excessive play in steering wheel. I fixed the play by replacing the lower column joint, but the binding still occurs. For example, if you are driving it on a highway at 65mph and you have to turn slightly on a curve or perhaps change lanes, the steering wheel seems to bind up and you then jerk the car a bit as you overcompensate by turning the steering wheel more than you need to make the turn. It is unnerving to myself and scary to those who are not used to it. There is no noticeable play in the balljoints or tierods. I don't "Dukes of Hazard" the car over ramps. It has become progressively worse over the last 20k or so. New tires/brakes, original springs/shocks, original steering box and pump. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance!!

Still not fixed. I am going to replace the tierods next week or so. Anyone heard of this problem??

have you maybe considered that the gear box is getting worn out. there may be a hex screw that you can tighten to take up for some of the slack. I'm
not really sure if these gear boxes have that. You dont want to tighten it too tight, but if you do and then test drive you will notice a tighter drive.

Did you try spraying the U joint close to the firewall ?
