hey guys , lately im getting a really bad clacking noise in my 90 cv 302 efi , from my right valve cover , im guessing its either a stuck lifter , A broken rocker or the rod wore through the rocker it self.. my next step is to take the valve cover off to hopefully see a broken rocker instead of a collapsed lifter ! do i have to take the plenum off to get the valve cover off or can a get around it, and if i have to take it off , how do i do it ? thanks for any input

The best bet is to get a Haynes or Chilton manual to help with more than just that repair. Are you sure it's coming from there? Sometimes an exhaust leak will give a tapping sound like that and it's not always that easy to tell the difference. Get a piece of heater hose and listen through one end point the other around the noise area.
