I was wondering if it would be possible to buy a totaled/cheap P71 and swap a few of the parts onto my 04 Grand Marquis LS.
The main things I was considering are:
the air box and zip tube (I believe that's what its called)
drive shaft
rear gears
full exhaust
If I were to swap all of these in would I be able to take the computer from the P71 and just plug it in and have it work, or would it need a tune?
I apologize in advance if I'm using any of the wrong terminology
What are you looking to gain? The only advantage I would see is the gears. The PCM is will most likely not function properly. Your GM has pats system and crown Vic P71does not. Other modules communicate with it and share vehicle specific info. So if it is not programmed to your vehicle could cause other issues. I guess I never noticed a intake air filter, tube difference or see any real gains from it.
I was hoping to gain a little more power from the car, I thought I had read something somewhere about the airbox swap. Right now its only got the single exhaust so I was hoping to upgrade to the dual exhaust as well.
Most p71 have a longer Trans output shaft I believe. That would give them a shorter driveshaft. I would have to do some more looking to confirm but I do believe there is a difference.
