That's pretty much it. The auto parts store should have a tranny pan gasket and filter all together in one package--get that so that you can replace the gasket as well. Put fluid back in (make sure to get it in the cold area of the stick, not the "MAX HOT" area so you don't overfill it!) and you should be good to go.

Check the maintenence schedule in your owner's manual. I believe that they don't recommend the fluid change until 100,000 miles.
NO. 100k is the recommended mileage for spark plugs. Ford recommends every 30k to ensure longevity for the 4R70W tranny. Not sure the cutoff date but my '98 and '99 both had Torque Converter drains. I know the 2007s do not have the TC drains but your '04 might. Definitely worth looking under there. You'll see a plastic plug in the bottom center of the bell housing. You remove that plastic plug and will have to rotate the motor until you see the plug in the TC lined up with this hole on the bell housing. It's one bolt. It's best if you have someone manually turn the motor at the harmonic balancer while you lie underneath to see when it's lined up. If you just drop the pan and change the filter you only get out 4-5 quarts out of 14 total. Drain the TC as well. Here is a great writeup if you're interested. Good luck.

Seeing as how the owner's manual of my 04 CV Sport says 100k, I have to respectfully disagree.
Well I'm suprised. I've always heard 30k, and every Crown Vic/GM/TC owner over at CrownVic.net changes their's every 30k. If that's what your manual says, then that's what it says. I wouldn't wait till 100k if I were you though. As easy as it is to flush the tranny, it's worth the extra insurance of changing it at 30k. Especially if you take into consideration the many Torque Converter issues in the 4R70W, I definitely wouldn't wait that long.
