Question What Marquis = P71 Crown Vic. Package??

I was wondering what option package would equal out to a P71 Crown Vic.

I've seen a few Gran Marquis with 'M75' in their vin #'s. But what is the 'official' number I should be hunting for in search for a police package if I can't get ahold of a P71?

I am pretty sure that the police package is exclusive of interceptors, not even a crown vic without the P71 will perform as the interceptor. Hope it helps.

Re: What Marquis = P71 Crown Vic. Package??

There isn't really a police package for the Grand Marquis since they aren't normally used for police work. However, the Crown Vic and Grand Marquis are the same car, so all the parts would swap over if you wanted to grab goodies off of a junkyard P71 (or just bring your toolbox with you to the parking lot of your local donut shop).

The other option is to hunt down a Grand Marquis with the HPP (Handling and Performance Package) option. The suspension isn't quite as stiff as a P71, but better than a regular Grand Marquis. Dual exhaust is standard on HPPs as far as I know, and they probably get the 3.27 rear axle ratio. Otherwise you'll most likely get the 2.73 rear end, which by comparison really doesn't cut it.

One easy way to know is to look under the car and see if it has dual exhaust. Or a rear stabilizer bar. Or both.

Re: What Marquis = P71 Crown Vic. Package??

pre 03 hpp will have rims like mine. i have an hpp.

hpp gets you:
11.25" torque converter
beefy sway bar(yes beefier than a p71)
air suspension in the rear(your rear will not sag)
dual exhaust
3.27 or 3.55 gears(depending on year)

there may be more, but i can't remember right now. a p71 is designed for severe duty, not great handling. the hpp is designed for handling. an hpp will out handle a p71.

All Panthers with 16" wheels (anything 1998 or newer) have 225/60R16 tires, regardless of model or option package.
