1" in is 2" smaller track width. This results in more body roll and crappier handling. Having the correct offset also enables the widest wheel possible. If my wheels had even 5mm of positive or negative offset, they would either crush my fenders or they would never bolt on because of interference with the upper ball joint. They are only 9" wide. MOST people upgrade wheels for better performance. Having more positive offset than was stock is simply a decrease in performance any way you look at it.
