Wipers staying on...

OK...one of you guys has had this problem before, I hope. I used the wipers this morning to clear off the night's moisture from the windshield, and they never went off. I put the switch is every different position there was but the wipers kept wiping.

This has got to be the switch from what I have read on the other board. Anybody care to comment? My warranty will cover this so it's all good. Got an appointment for Monday morning at the local Ford dealer.

Re: Wipers staying on...

Sounds like the homing switch is probably bad--it's the switch that senses that the wipers are in the parked position and shuts the motor off.

Thanks Nathan. I would have bet that it was my switch on the column that went bad. Turns out there is an alert at the dealerships for "water intrusion" into the motor itself. They dropped the column and removed the switch and tested it and it came back as fine. Then they replaced the motor. It took them four hours of work to get it right...all covered by warranty. A good thing...

Re: Wipers staying on...

This is a common problem with certain cars (sorry, Ford isn't the only one). In almost every case of wipers staying on, you are dealing with a bad control switch, or a bad relay. Depending on the design of the wiper system, the relay can be in the motor itself, or it can be external & located virtually anywhere. Since it was entirely covered under warranty for you, all you care about is that it was fixed. Since they replaced the wiper motor, my educated guess would be the relay is integral with the motor which necessitated the replacement of the entire motor.
