Suspension Question

Hi,

A quick techie question.

On full compression (after a student was digging for glory on a slope) I get a grumble akin to stone on metal when the front axle rises and the nearside is under compression.

Can find no stones and nothing obvious, that leaves seized bushes.

Anyone had anything similar before I spend time and cash swapping the buses over?

Cheers,

Neil

Quickest 」400 I ever spent.

Nothing left of the bushes, two dampers given up the ghost and thee springs close to fracture.

I'm sure I'll get in my wife's good books by swaping them out over the Bank Holiday.

You going for anything special or sticking to the standard set-up?

I've put Scorpion Racing +1" springs, De Carbon gas shocks and steering damper on mine, what a difference that lot made!

Polybushes are next, just doing the panhard rod bushes for now and get a full set at Billing me thinks. Also have to check the rear axle A-frame balljoint, I think that's on its way as well.

Howdy,

I知 fitting a standard kit with genuine parts.

I tried a while back on a mates to fit non standard and his Disco felt all adrift.

The only changes I知 going to make are blue comfort poly bushes for a bit of extra articulation.

I appreciate now would be the time for a lift but I知 building a beast of a 90 for that purpose so just good ground coverage on moderate terrain is what I知 after.

Don稚 talk to me about a frame ball joints, my knuckles are still blue from swapping mine. :(

Cheers,

Neil

You'll have to let me know how you get on with the blue Poly-Bushes, thats what I was looking at. I need something easy to fit as I don't have access to large vice or press of any kind so it's nuts, bolts and large washers I'll be using.

Ref the A-frame balljoint, last one I changed was on my old Rangie and I just heated the carrier until it was red and thumped the old one out. The new one slipped in nicely (as they say) and then quickly in to cold water to cool it down. Just the job!

Have a nice weekend

Martin

No worries, I plan to fit them either Monday next or the one after. I値l let you know what they are like.

As for the ball joint, heat was OK, borrowed a press to but the new ball back in then my plan fell apart.

Thought whilst I was there I would take the opportunity to clean the top of the fuel tank and fit an lining between it and the guard.

Never again!

Have a good one.

Hi Budgie,

New blue bushes, new springs and dampers.

Totally transformed the ride, the articulation is at least as good as the standard rubber but a little more taught on the road.

Two days well spent (was sent wrong springs for front..... you only know after an hour spent fitting, and wrong dampers for rear, tried Monroe Gas but the bushes rounded over when tightened)

Cheers,

Neil
