05 f-150 5.4. blue smoke @startup

Hi everyone. Im trying to keep from being jerked around by the dealer any longer.Well its actually my sisters truck and she is in the navy. Its a 05 f-150 with only 60k on it. It smokes alot of blue smoke on startups. First the dealer said it was the timing chain tensioner pilots. Then they said there was a tsb for the injectors. in which they replaced 2 bad injectors. then it was spark plugs(i thought they were 100k plugs). After all that it still smoked blue on start up and they said it was because the catylic converters had a bunch of leftover gas in them and it would have to be driven. So i gave them the benefit of the doubt after $2k in repairs. So on wednesday my sister drove from ohio to virginia to be restationed in northfolk.. And guess what? THE TRUCK STILL SMOKES more than my 7.3 PSD with 3 bad glow plugs. So Im hoping someone one here has experienced this issue with a 5.4. because now I am 500 miles away from the truck and the dealer out there says it has some major issues... And Im not there to keep my military sister from being ripped off and being jerked around.

Please Help thanks Terry

Re: 05 f-150 5.4. blue smoke @startup

So no one has ever seen a 5.4 smoke? Ive read alot of posts about 5.4's.i guess what amazes me is that this truck has never been anywhere but the dealer.Every thing from oil to brakes and tires has always come from ford. Im just a bit suprised no one on here has never heard of this issue. Its never been of road or even pulled a trailer and was bought brand new by my sister.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes it takes awhile for a member to read here. I myself have not experienced any smoke from any of our vehicles. Could be a location problem too. Maybe excessive heat or?

excessive heat? ive seem some pretty darn beat up pick ups from florida-cali, but for a truck that has had an easy life of no towing or even hauling, Im supprised at this point. honestly i cant believe my sister spent $2k at the ford dealer in repairs and the problem was no better especially after they had it for a week trying to diagnose it. This is why I stick to the older stuff.Easy to figure out the problem. I got so many parts in the garage I can work on any 5.0,5.8 or even the 6.9 and 7.3 diesels. heck wouldnt even own a ford diesel after they scrapped the 7.3.

All I'm referring to is that I haven't experienced it here and haven't worked with them where it's very hot so I have no idea if heat can cause it. If someone pulls a heavy load and overworks it over grades, that can wear one out in a hurry. Hope you can get help from the dealer. Tell your sister I thank her for her service.

My sis said thank you. She has been in for 9 yrs. I know guys that have super charged them and put tuners on them and have never had a problem even @ 150k. the truck has spent most time in ohio and highway back and fourth to denver and virginia. and it doesnt get very hot here. and like i said its never hauled a trailer or even really had anything in the bed except her new mattress she bought.
i hope they come up with a solution on tuesday.

I hope so too. Even if you have to try another dealer or contact Ford with the 800 number in the owners manual. I was in for 7 years, Viet days.

well thank you very much for your service. its at a totally diff. dealer in virginia. I even called ford customer care to let them know what the situation is so they had record of there still being a problem. What i found to be funny was the dealer in ohio try to tell my sis that her problems were from not using motorcraft oil/filter, and yet every single oil change was at dealers all across the country in which she showed him the stack of dealer receipts. We always use motorcraft. even my truck with 500k still gets motorcraft.only thing its ever had was a injection pump, set of valve cover gaskets and i converted the glowplugs from 6 volt to 12 volt military grade chevy plugs.oh and one c-6 tranny. i have always had great luck with cars/trucks. Gee wiz, you almost need an engineering degree to work on cars now.

You can say that again. It's too bad so many mechanics don't take pride in what they do. I guess it's because some customers look down on them, not knowing what they need to know.
