For the past month, I have the problem with a hesitation/skip in my engine.
Engine light was on, EGR valve, EGR solenoid, DPFE sensor and EGR regulator all have been replaced. Everything in the EGR system has been replaced and electrical connections checked.
Prior to that, all spark plugs and ignition coils were replaced.
For the past week, the engine light has been off, but still have the skip in the engine. Until last night, the engine light came back on with a code of PO306, cylinder no. 6 misfire detected.
Before I return it to the mechanic, are there any suggestions out there for me?
Mr G,
Got a friend having same problem not but no code. Did you come up with a fix?

I as well have a skip, though mine is a little earlier in years. I am not sure what to do either. My check engine light comes on, bt only for a few seconds and then off. I have one more thing to try and if it works, I will let you know.

mine also had the same problem, sputtering til it finally stoped running,o replaced the fuel pump relay,it starts now but still running rough, while i was working on it i disconnected the battery, later i read if the powers disconnected for more than 5 minutes you need to drive the truck for 10 miles so the pcm can reset itself, gonna try that see if it helps

Thank You

You mentioned that you replaced all your EGR equipment, but did you clean the passages? I don't mean spray some cleaner in there, I mean remove the throttle body and clean them with a coat hanger or screw driver. I had many EGR problems in the past with my 1997 F-150, replaced everything as you did, just to find out that the passages were clogged and I wasted money. Good luck, hope this helps.
As far as a misfire, remember there are only 2 basic things that you need to check fuel and spark, since you mentioned that you changed all plugs, wires, and coils I would say start with fuel. I recently had 3 injectors clog, I ran 2 cans on B-12 pressurized thru the fuel rail and it cleaned it right up.
I can go into more detail if needed, FYI I will be ford factory certified tech in 5 months time.
MR GLASS ,,soon as you find out your problem ,please post it ,,ive had the very same problem for a couple years now.ive had replaced plentum gasket ,two sets of wires ,two sets of plugs ,both coil packs, complete fuel flush ,whatever garage suggested was done,,, especially misses around 40 mph ,,?cost me a small fortune but i really like this truck...
I have a 1997 F-150 that had the cyl. misfire. I checked everything replaced plugs and cleaned fuel injecters (not with fuel additive but removed and blown out. Checked all voltages, resistance of coil, injectors and plugwires all were good.
The problem was with the connectors in the plug mold to the injecter. They had too much of a gap between them and were not making good contact. I pulled the fuel injectors and twisted the spades just a little where the connectors would make contact.
Disconnect the battery for a minute or so. This clears the DTC code. Then drive for 10 miles or so. Let me know if it fixed it for you. I came upon this fix just after I bought my truck and went over some railroad tracks and lost my bright lights and A/C. Same problem only in fuse box. Seems to be a common problem with this model.
It is a great truck however and now has 226,000 miles and still runs great.
The F150's with the OBD-II use the piston velocity and a few other parameters to detect and analyze a cylinder misfire.
A misfire can be caused by insufficent fuel, no fuel, insufficient or no spark. The culprits can be a bad coil, bad plug wire, bad or fouled spark plug, bad injector coil or plugged injector.
This is the general list of possible bad actors however, I have a 1997 F-150 that had the cyl. misfire. I checked everything replaced plugs and cleaned fuel injecters (not with fuel additive but removed and blown out. Checked all voltages, resistance of coil, injectors and plugwires all were good.

Disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes. This clears the DTC code. Then drive it for a while. There is a list of complicated driving routines to perform that will activate a particular diagnostic routine. I use to have the list and will try to find it.

I had a simular problem that started a few months after I change my plugs and wires. The code I kept getting was misfire #1cyl.After buy another set of factory wires it stopped for a few months but came back. After checking injector and wires Ipulled the "new"plug to find out that after a while the plug was firing through the insolator to the head.I replaced the plug and it corrected the problem. GOOD LUCK!
