2001 F-150 Lariat 4WD

Am curious..this is my first 4WD truck and it has the electronic shift-on-the-fly 4WD....am wondering if the 4WD HI can be used at all times on dry pavement or just on slippery roads? I am considering going off-roading and id like to know if i can leave the 4WD HI on all the time and not have to switch it off whenever I get back on the pavement? Thanks.

You should not leave in 4x4 at all on dry pavement because you could damage the front driveline. the 4 wheel drive operation on the f-150 is not made like an all-wheel drive vehicle. If you still have your owners manual check it out.

Re: 2001 F-150 Lariat 4WD

So If i go off-roading on grass, gravel and all that, i can leave in 4WD HI? Or just on mud, such things like that? I have an owners manual but the last owner took the "How to use the 4WD system" bronchure from the truck but the owners manual does not have enough information for me. Thanks

Sure u can, anything but dry pavement. U could try to do more searching on the Internet since u don't have the book. Cuz I know they are expensive to buy from ford.
