2003 F-150 Valve Spring Issue

Hey Everyone,
I have a 2003 F-150 4.6L V8 with 68,000 miles. The other day I had a Valve Spring fall into the engine and do some damage. I was told that I have to get a new engine put in and I'm not very happy. How could this have happend? Any ideas or thoughts about this issue and what I should do?

thanks for your help

Wow, no thoughts yet. Does something not look right in the original post for ya'll not to post any comments? We are thinking about just selling it as is for 2000-3000 dollars and get if off our hands. Is this a good thought?

Re: 2003 F-150 Valve Spring Issue

To be honest, I have never heard of a valve spring just "coming off"

Does the engine run? If so, how well does it run?

If the valve spring came off, it wouldn't fall down into the engine. It would stay on top of the head. The valve would drop into the cylinder causing catastrophic engine damage.

This is what 2 mechanics told me happened. The engine runs but when you start it, it makes a real loud clanking noise on the right side and doesn't stop. I took a video if it if you would like to hear it. I just need you send me your email address.
