2005 150 crew 4x4

My 2005 has a problem and I was wondering if any one has heard of it, My front hubs are self activating you will be going down the road and they kick in and you have to pull over abd stop until they catch, I have had to ford and have had the hubs replaced already and now it is doing it again, Help if you can this costs a grand a pop.

Re: 2005 150 crew 4x4

I'm going to take a shot in the dark here. I assume its shift on the fly. So with that in mind I would have to say you have an electrical problem. My first course of action would be to pull the fuse that powers the switch and see if it still does it.

If not, then its definitley electrical. If it does, then its mechanical. I would bet its electrical if its shift on the fly.

yes it shifts on the fly without the switch making the activation, the four wheel drive lights do not come on, it seems that only the hubs are engaging, then all heck breaks lose it then sounds like metal to metal until you slow down enough for the hubs to catch. almost like it is partial engaged. I waas hoping that someone has heard of it happening being the truck is so new...........

Re: 2005 150 crew 4x4

I cant beleive Ford is not covering this under a power train warranty. I would really press the issue. If you get in touch with some people in Detroit you can get things done believe me.

One quick and sure fix that isnt that expensive would be to swap out the auto hubs for manual locking hubs. This would prevent it from doing this until you could research it some more.

I'll do some digging around and see what I can come up with. It may be a problem in the transfer case too. I have an 05 F-250 but its 2 wheel drive. We have a few 05 to 06 150's that are 4x4 but have not had this problem.

Another option to prevent it would be to remove the front drive shaft until you can determine what is causing this. The main thing right now is to keep your wallet from taking another hit.

The power train warranty I believe is 5/50 so you should be covered unless its over 50,000.

Very common issue! It's the 4X4 vacuum solenoid on the firewall behind the battery. There is a freakin' TSB on this issue, but I have no time to look it up right now. If you really need me to look it up, reply here or PM me.
