Question 2009 F-150 Instrument Panel Lights?

Just took delivery on a new 2009 F-150 Lariat Super Crew: when I turn it's headlights on during the day, the instrument panel lights do not come on. The instrument panel only lights up at night. This seems wrong - is this a new "feature" or a problem? I've scoured the Owner's Guide and it's not mentioned.

I'm seeing the same thing on a new F-150 I just bought. Would like to know if anyone knows if this is by design.

Re: 2009 F-150 Instrument Panel Lights?

Just picked up a 09 F150 FX4 and it does the same thing, confusing as my dealer or Ford central knows nothing about it.

A guy at work says his does the same and during the day if you hold your hand over a small sensor on the top (?) of the dash after about a minute the dash lights will come on.

Re: 2009 F-150 Instrument Panel Lights?

I've had mine about 3 months. I agree with the last post, the dash lights are triggered by a sensor. They come on when they decide it's dark enough. I figured it out when I had to go through a tunnel a couple times. They come on in the tunnel, go back off when you come out. Pretty soon you won't even ahve to drive a vehicle. Just sit there and it will do everything for you......
