2001 F150, when the engine wears out from trailer towing, can I do an engine swap, or will the tranny have to go too? Possible? The truck is paid off, cheaper than a new truck. Mike

I don't think the tranny will have to go but you need a few new parts to go with it such as engine mounts and new flywheel.

on top of that you will need a new ECU. The tranny should not be a prob, except for mounting parts. Other than that you should be ok. Mostly you are going to run into wiring and ecu change issues.
