4 wheel low not engaging

I just purchased a 1996 Ford F-150 4x4 and the 4 low will not engage.

Any help would be much appreciated. This is my first 4x4.

Re: 4 wheel low not engaging

Is the 4X4 electronic or manual? In other words, do you pull a lever or use buttons to switch into 4WD?

Re: 4 wheel low not engaging

I would suspect that there is a problem with the 4X4 shift motor located on the transfer case. This is an electronic motor that shifts the transfer case into the proper selection.

You have 2 choices........................

Fix the problem.
Never use 4X4 low (I never have used low range in my 4X4 vehicles).
