I just noticed that someone had put my hubs into 4x4 lock and I've probably been driving like that for a month or so. My question is will this hurt anything? Also most of my driving has been on the freeway. I was told years ago that it could mess up the front drive?

You probably didn't hurt a thing. The problem with locking the front axle and driving on hard road is the circumfrounce of the tires is different, due to wear. And they will fight each other because they are covering different lengths of road on each revolution. You don't have this problem on sand, dirt, mud, etc. The tires will slip easier.
