confused 89 F150 Aod

I have shifting problem on 89 F150 302 AOD. When going into OD, there is a hesitation and then it will "slam" into OD with a shuttering bang. I've replaced EVERY sensor, new plugs/wires, replaced torque converter. Upshift is smooth. Downshifts fine.

Re: 89 F150 Aod

If it up-shift's and down shift's fine where's the problem? If it's only slaming in OD try adjusting the TVA cable? it may help.

The problem is that it "slams" into OD. I've adjusted the TVA cable and it did not correct the problem

The tV wouldnt have anything to do with it if its shifting fine in reverse and into drive. The Throttle V alve linkage needs to be adjusted when the trans downshifts too much or at the wrong speed. I'm just guessing here, but arnt the gears controlled by valves? If so the valve controlling OD could be sticking or something.

Thank you "89F150" for your correction. Your right, the OD is controlled by a solenoid. It's allowing the line pressure's to get to high prior to the shift. It's an easy fix, if you've done tranny work before.
