94 351 check eng. light

For past few months the check engine light comes on about 10-15 sec. after starting and stays on for about 15sec. Then after about 2 min of driving it comes on for about 1 min. Will come on and off intermittantly after that if I am doing in town driving. Doesn't come on at highway speeds.

I'm guessing this is emissions since oil, coolant, etc all are ok. Engine runs fine, no misses, hesitation, etc...

I took it to Autozone to have them check the codes, but the service person claims they can only check them when the light is on all the time. Yeah I know, they aren't really that motivated to help. I was hoping to avoid a diagnosis fee from a local mechanic.

Anyone have any thoughts?

The AutoZone guy is yanking your chain. The code's can be brought up at any time. Buy yourself an inexpensive code scanner and check them yourself. It's easy

Re: 94 351 check eng. light

it does sound like an emissions sensor giving you the engine light.
another thing that i have recently come across is a guy had an engine light come on and he took it back to the dealer to find he was not putting the gas cap on tight enough.
apparently on some of these newer trucks the fuel system is sealed and has a sensor on it for some stupid reason.

I used to have that same 94 and an F150 same year, they both did the same thing you said , but only when driving hard, or driving fast for a long period.

So I babied the vehicles and never had another problem with it.
