97 F150 Fuel Problem - Ford Forums

I have a 97 F150 4.6L 4x4. I'm not getting any power to the fuel pump. I have checked the fuel pump relay by replacing it with the horn relay (which are the same) and also checked the 20 amp fuse, both are fine. I did also put a new Napa fuel pump in the truck. Also tested power to the harness which was negative. Any help would be much appreciated.

Check the inertia switch, it is behind the right side of instrument panel, two wires, if this area got kicked or hit it could trip this switch. Are you checking the pink/black wire? This is power to the pump, and remember the pump does not run long, only three seconds, when the key is turned on. You need to have someone turn the key on while you watch for voltage.

yup had 2 guys there checking voltage. Actually hooked the old fuel pump up to a battery charger and checked with 12v 10a power and it ran fine. when hooking it up to harness fromm truck got nothing. Would inertia switch be the same as the one that would trip in a rollover? If so have also checked that, and is not tripped.

One more thing could this be a computer problem?

On many of these Ford trucks, there is a small ground wire coming off the battery terminal. If this connection is lost..... no power to the pump. 2 cents. Also, have you checked fusible links?
Yes, the inertia switch is the same one that trips in a rollover

I replaced the battery a year ago and dont remember any ground wire. Where is it? Maybe thats the Problem.

The small ground wire comes from the neg. battery cable.
