aftermarket air intake - Ford Forums

I have a 2003 f-350 with a 7.3 powerstroke and i am thinking about installing an aftermarket air intake system but i was told by somebody that since i live in northern new hampshire and we commonly have temps. below zero that if i used one of these system the truck would not run right because it would be getting to much cold air. If anybody has experienced this problem or knows anything about it please let me know. Also i am looking for suggestions on which systems is the most recomended. Thanks for the input.

You shouldn't have any trouble with an aftermarket air intake regardless of the outside air temps. The computer uses the air intake temperature sensor as well as the mass air flow sensor to correct for changes in air temperature and the actual amount of air entering the engine.

I know there are a few companies out there making such a system but as usual K&N comes to mind. Just be careful you don't over oil the filter as the oil has a tendency to really screw with the MAF sensor. Truckperformance.com is a great place to get what you're looking for.

As I'm sure you know, diesels are tough to get warmed up but as long as your glow plugs are all working you should have no trouble at all. A block heater sure helps too!
