Re: Air Conditioner Problem - 2006 F-150 Crew Cab

Hi everybody
I've come across a LOT of cars in the last couple of years that have come out of the factory with LESS freon than what they should have in the system, causing problems like the ones you describe: takes too long to cool down the cabin, don't get cold on really hot days, can't go below a certain temperature, etc. The cars did not have any leaks when tested and after re-gassing them with the correct amount we've had no come backs. Also, the problem seems to be global because there were cars made locally and imported as well.
My advice to you is take it to the dealer that sold it to you, tell them to pull the gas out of the system in front of you or give you a print out of how much they pulled out, if it is below specs they have an obligation to re-fill it with the correct amount. Down here, Ford pays for each one of these repairs without dramas, provided you didn't create a leak by having an accident or damaged some component going off road and things like that. Hope this helps, cheers

Re: Air Conditioner Problem - 2006 F-150 Crew Cab

Hey
Sorry, but we don't get that particular model imported down here, so I can't tell you exactly how much refrigerant it takes BUT, under your hood, there will be a sticker (requiered by law) that the manufacturing plant has to put in every car, stating the type and amount of gas that goes in your system. The type should be R134a. This sticker I've seen in white, yellow or orange, depending on where the car was made. If it's not on the actual hood, check the panel above the grille.
The amount of refrigerant will vary for different models and depending also on year of manufacturing, brand of compressor used at the time, size of cabin, if auxiliary a/c is fitted and so on. To give you an idea, F-250s will take 1.13kg (40 oz) without auxiliary system fitted and 1.93kg (68 oz) with aux system, so your car shouldn't be too far off these specs. My guess will be around 0.9kg to 1.1kg, seeing as the F-250s are a little bigger. Hope this helps, cheers

Re: Air Conditioner Problem - 2006 F-150 Crew Cab

I have an '06 F150 with the same problem. After three visits to my dealer here in Fort Worth, I made the service manager go for a ride with me. We came back and did some "checking". He told me that the computer is programed to shut down the compressor when the engine drops to 70% power. This is to aid the engine in effeciancy. I've tried to find a power programmer to correct this problem and even talked with the guys at Diablo to see if they offered any thing. To no avail, still hotter than hell in TX

Hello again, I told my brother about this a/c issue and he has the same truck 06 scab as me, I passed on the advise from a ford mech. on this site and his advise was to have the dealer empty all the freon and have it counted for (the LBS) and refill it, and his was 4 or 5 pounds less then what they put back and he has no problems any more I havent had the time to take mine in for the same problem but will let you know what happens. The whole thing about 70% savings or what other line of s#$t can they come up with... who out there in there right F%$#n mind would have bought there ford truck if the knew the AIR didnt work... mad Re: Air Conditioner Problem - 2006 F-150 Crew Cab

I been having the same problem with the AC. It does not cool the cab well enough, the temp in the vents is 60 or 70, at the high fan setting. The dealer has given me no repair availables and that that's the way they are now. I have taken it to the dealer 3 times and they say that all the specs are correct according to Ford. I just called Ford today and explained the problem to them; they say that they would go with what the dealer says. I told them that tomoroow I would take it to another dealer to check it out, but I 'm starting to think that it will be a waste of time. Does any of you have just tried to put just a few more ounces of refrigerant to see if it gets any colder? sense it seems to be a lack of refrigerant according to some of the replys I've read in this forum? I'm going to put some more 134a by myself and see if it fixes the problem. What do you think about this? any other ideas?
