Bent push rod

I drive a 1995 Flareside with a 5.0 EFI engine. After hearing a cleacking noise and discovering (1000 Km away from home) that I was running on 7 cylinders, I drove (carefully !!!) back home and after checking spark plugs and cables, I took off the valve cover and found one "loose" rocker. I took it off and found that its pushrod was bent. Can any one tell me how to investigate the cause for the bent pushrod ?. What should I do next ?.
Thanks for any help !
