C6 trans refill quantity - Ford Forums

I have an '87 F150 with a 302 and C6 transmission. I think the dipstick reading may be faulty. When I drop the pan to do a filter and fluid change, It takes almost 10 litres/quarts to get it to the fill mark (when hot idling in park). The Ford shop manual says to add 6 quarts and top up as required. There is quite a difference there and I find I am developing leaks that may be attributable to overfilling. Has anybody dropped the pan on their C6 lately and refilled it and if so, how much did it take to top up the system?

Do you drain the Torque Converter?

Also, any leaks?

ISSUE:
The transmission may have low fluid level and/or may have either a shift concern and/or an engagement concern. This may be caused by transmission fluid leaking from the transmission into the transfer case through the transfer case input seal.

ACTION:
Replace the transfer case input seal. The new seal should reduce the possibility of fluid leaking from the transmission into the transfer case.
