roll can someone help me decode this

i have a id tag off my rear dana 60 of my 78 f 250 and the tag reads 3 73 D8TA HO
603900-1
i think the 3 73 is the gear ratio and if it is what would i need to go to if i want to put 35in tires on my truck someone please help

Yup, 3.73:1 is the ratio. What size tires do you have now? I'll need that to figure out what you'll need to keep the same performance you have now.

theres 31in on there right now and i dont remember if i put this but im putting in a 400hp ford 400 hope that helps and i want 35in tires on it too just to let you know again

To keep the gearing so that it's equal to what you have now, you'll want something around 4.20:1, but, 4.56 will be better, more power to turn the tires, and all that good stuff. If your concerned about gas mileage, that 400 should handle 35's with your 3.73's

so i should keep the 3.73 if im on a budget or get the 4.56 or it doesnt really matter cause they'll both work
