Question colum shift?

Hi all:

I am new to this forum, but I hope to find great people here since I know it takes a special breed to drive a Ford. Well now that thats out of the way here is my question. I have a 1966 F-100 that I will be restoring starting this spring. The shifter was changed to the floor, should I keep it on the floor or bring it back up to the colum? The reason my father changed it was it was hanging up between first and secound. Also does anyone know of a cheap place to find hubcaps?

tia

Personally I would keep it as original as possible. The column will have to be rebuilt and part's are hard to find in some area's. Check out lmctrucks.com They sell part's for nearly every ford ever built and good luck with it.

Re: colum shift?

I've found that most convert column shift to floor shift when the column linkages start playing up. In some cases it is cheaper and less fiddley to bolt on a floor shift.

Re: colum shift?

I got new rims and the original hubcaps off of mine are sitting in the bed of my truck not getting used, they are in pretty good shape for being 31 years old.

Re: colum shift?

I just found that the column shifter on my 83 broke at the handle connection. Snapped at the column. I have an 85 with auto trans that is wrecked. I need to move quick. How difficult is changing to floor shifter? Or is swap better alternative? swap seems like a lot of work its getting cold and I have to work outside too.
