My 1988 F350, 4X4 diesel dually, develop'd a major crack in one frame rail, right between the rear spring where there is a reduction in metal for the shock clearance. The crack is about 6", the frame rail is 7". We were lucky to discover it at this time before we had a major breakdown.
Is this a fairly common problem or is this a single incedence? If anyone has seen this, please let me know.
Ford customer services was not helpful or interested, since it is out of warranty.
unless someone besides me has seen this i would say it is a single case.
usually fords crack the frame up front around the steering box.
what have you done to remedy this problem because it doesnt sound like something that the ford garage would repair.
i am thinking it would require an extra piece of steel plate welded to the inside of the rail as a brace.

This is not uncommon in a truck that has been over loaded numerous time's or see's very hard use in rough terrain. New metal must be welded in place before it collapse's entirely.
