F150 inline 6 4.9L oil leak

I have a problem with a '93 f150 I6 4.9L
Leaking as soon as i put oil in
at first couldnt identify where from so I assumed oil pan since the gasket was pushed out from sides of flange on pan (and the pan had a hole in it).
replaced it/ no luck
putting first quart of oil in and the leak was still there
valve cover gasket was dry all the way around and head does not look to be leaking
it's actually leaking from a plate on drivers side of engine block that has a gasket around it and is right above distributor.
problem is, i dont know what that plate is for, but oil is definitely coming from under that plate

Anyone know what this plate is, what it does or if it can be taken off, resealed and gasketed?

I'm stumped

Re: F150 inline 6 4.9L oil leak

the cover is for the push rods, don't know why they have it but thats what it is for, it happened on mine so i replaced the gasket, around $20, but then it started to leak again. there is no seat on the cover so you will have to be careful and make sure the gasket gets in the correct spot.

Re: F150 inline 6 4.9L oil leak

same problem here, but fixed for good, no problem. just be careful tightening the bolts. dont overtighten them. make sure the cover is straight (I used a 2' level, and mine was a little warped from someone tightening the bolts trying to stop the leak), dont make that mistake. get the gasket, youl be happy when the leak is forgotten.
