Hello, I own an 88 Ford F-150 loved it until just 2 days ago.
The truck wont start since it stalled out on me.
I change the fuel filter and battery but it still wont start.
Would apprciate any help please its been a nightmare.

Some more info would definitely help us, help you. Does the engine even turn over? If so, does it sound like it is 'straining' to crank? Do you know if you are getting spark or fuel? Did the truck just die al at once?, or run rough before stalling out? etc. etc.
As atec77 suggested, check all three (spark, fuel, timing) and we can go from there.

It cranks but won't turn over.
At one point i got it to start but would not stay running unless I pushed on the gas.
I'll check spark, timing & fuel.

my 86 did the same thing when i changed to mechanical temp gauge found out it was because I disconnected the electric temp sensor sensor was good but switched it do to ground prolem causeing my temp gauge read hot even when cold. Anyways check the sensor for the cheapy replacement for my truck it was 10 bucks and 5 minutes work (on a side note make sure to change it when its cold if you can that water gets hot) may take a few bump to clear the chambers but mine was back to fireing on the first kick after i reconnected it then i just figured out how to bypass it to still use the mechanical gauge without finding a new socket to thread it in.

I had a 1989 Cougar wth the 351 W and it would stop for no apparent reason, then I remembered reading somewhere about a Hall effect coil located inside the distributor. The action of the vacuum advance was always flexing the wire between the pickup coil (located on the vacuum advance plate) and the outside of the distributor. This constant bending of the wire eventually broke the conductors inside the wire insulation. I replaced the coil and it solved the problem. This device looks like a tape deck head and is located very close to the reluctor ring (an iron ring with 8 little arms sticking out from the distributor drive shaft). The ring provides a magnetic signal to the pickup coil to tell the ignition module when to fire the spark plug. This is a very inexpensive part and eay to change. It cost me about $15.00 canadian
back in 1999 for this part.

1.Remove the distributor cap and rotor.

2.gently pry up the reluctor by applying even lift pressure all around the ring

3. Unscrew the pickup coil from the vacuum plate.

4. install new coil at exactly the same location and distance from the ring as the old one.

5. gently press with even pressure the reluctor ring onto the distributor shaft

6. check clearance between reluctor and pickup coil it sould be the same as before

7. Remount rotor and cap and try to start.
