You heard it here first Ford Motors knows it cannot compete any longer and neither can Chrysler. GM has a slight chance when they start importing cheaply made chinese cars. But any fool who buys anything made by GM outside the US will regret it. Fords' cash cow the F-150 may never be sold again now that Toyota has come on with the Tundra. I am un unfortunate owner of a 2005 F-150 that was manufactured with missing parts which for three years Ford has refused to install despite all other F-150 owners having the same truck and equipment packages. This is typical of Ford. If anyone can remember the Ford Pinto which was a death trap if hit in the rear since the gasoline tank was only 4 inches from a thin sheet metal panel. No rear bumper to speak of. Many young people were burned alive and disfigured by the exploding gas tank that sent gasoline through the rear cloth seats into the passenger compartment leaving no time to escape. Ford fought against fixing the Pinto for years by installing a simple metal shield that would have prevented the gasoline from entering the passenger compartment. A secret Ford memo finally surfaced that explained why Ford refused to fix this obvious defect. Ford did a study and determined that it would cost less to pay off the lawsuits to those persons burned to death and disfigured rather than the cost of reetrofitting all of the Ford Pintos" on the road which were several million. Ford chose cost savings over human life which has always been the Ford Motor company way. The same applies the Ford Crown Victoria which when hit from behind also causes the gasoline tank to rupture as it smashes into the rear differential (the Crown Victoris is a rear wheel drive vehicle). Ford refused to install a metal shield to keep people from being burned alive and disfigured also because it was cheaper to pay off on the lawsuits than it was to retro fit all the Ford Crown Victorias on the road. None of this is new. In 1958 when Robert Mcnamara was head of Ford Motor Company he decided to leave off a 50 cent piece of sheet metal from the front fenders of all 1958 Ford sedans and station wagons to save money. As a result within a year all of the 1958 Fords had their front headlights shaking as salt and mud built up in a crevice at the top front of the front fenders. There were no inner fenders in those days. I made the mistake of buying an F-150 three months after my wife bought an F-150. Her vehicle was delivered with all the parts that were missing from my F-150 and yet her vehicle has the smaller engine and did not even have a towing package. The Ford assembly line policy is that if a part is not available due to a shortage they have tubing or rubber hoses to quickly install rather than to dare stop an assembly line. In my case after three years of dealing with Ford idiots in customer service who do not even know anythijg about an automobile because they are not hired to know anything and after writing to the 'Big Shot" himself William Clay Ford at Ford World Headquarters , The American Road (to be renamed The Toyota Road), Dearborn, Mi 48121 he has a dumb upward mobility type call and say "If it does not say the part is in the brochure then its not included". So if the brochures do not say you get spark plugs with the engine or that the truck has a fuel pump then its not included. Of course all the other Ford F-150 trucks have the missing equipment left off of my truck and to this day Ford is still installing the missing equipment on their 2008 trucks. Im sorry to say we have four Ford vehicles but since this crooked, dishonest, and untrustworthy company has acted in this manner we will be buying from Toyota and Hyundai from now on.
I see that you have an axe to grind with Ford but I think you will find GM is in the poo deeper than Ford is. Ford's Euro division is doing ok and they have good quality product that can be imported to the USA and other area's. Chrysler has nothing to support it so is likely going to struggle alot and GM is taking steps to try and pull back from the brink of disaster.
It looks like Ford has lost your custom which is silly as they could have sorted your problem out alot better than they have done.
yea bud Chrysler is no good at all, aunts friend had one and she said she would never spend one pennie on Chrysler again, mand her car was in bad shape.after two weeks within having the car she had oil leaks in her driveway

I humbly disagree with the original post. With the recent gas crunch, nissan has decided to stop making trucks and I heard rumor that toyota was considering doing the same (believe it or not). Rumors will fly and its always had to tell which is true. Ford will not stop making trucks, not as long as people like me keep buying them.
and by the way, the cost/benefit analysis you referred to (lawsuit vs repair) is a strategy that all car companies employ; not just ford. It's the ugly side of business.
Sorry to hear that you have given up the goat with Ford.
The problems you reference with Ford have also been a problem with Chevy too. Rear engine Corvairs were extremely dangerous, Chevy CK1500 and 2500 trucks had fuel tank problems that could cause them to explode in side impact. There is more than you know.
I worked at a GM dealership about a dozen years ago. If you are concerned about safety, you fly vs drive.

All 73 to 86 GM C-K trucks with the fuel tanks mounted outside the frame were potentially dangerous. I was contacted years ago by GM and attorneys representing the class action law suit, I have yet to receive the rebate certificates I was promised.

Goodluck driving a Toyota.
"I COULD HARDLY BELIEVE THIS COMPANY. THE ONE ITEM WHICH WOULD HAVE MADE THE TRUCK LIKE ALL THE OTHER F-150'S WITH THE TOWING PACKAGE (AND WHICH IS ALREADY INSTALLED ON MY WIFES SAME YEAR F-150) COSTS SOMETHING LIKE $ 90 AND CHANGE. FOR $90 FORD HAS LOST A CUSTOMER WHO HAS TWO F-150'S, A MERCURY SABLE AND A LINCOLN TOWN. THIS IS THE WORST CAR COMPANY I EVER DEALTH WITH. THE IDIOTS KEPT SAYING IT WAS AN OPTION (FALSE). THEN THEY SAID THAT NO FORD AUTOMOBILES HAVE POWER STEERING COOLERS (FALSE AGAIN). NO ONE AT FORD KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT CARS OR TRUCKS THAT ANSWERS THE PHONE OR EMAILS. tHEY NEVER GOT ONE WARRANTY CLAIM FROM ME. FOR THREE YEARS I HAVE BEEN CONTACTING THEM AND THE DEALER ALL TO NO AVAIL. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD EVER BUY FROM A COMPANY LIKE FORD AFTER BEING TREATED LIKE THIS. ON THESE FOUR AUTOS WE MUST HAVE SPENT UPWARDS OF $95,000 IN TOTAL. yET THEY ARE SO CHEAP THEY WOULD NOT PUT A MISSING $90 PART ON MY TRUCK. GO FIGURE.
to the original person of this thread i think you have seriously fell off your wagon if you think that the koreans can build a better vehicle .then go right ahead ive owned fords just about all my life and ive never had any problems.
and i doubt that ford will throw in the towel and if you havnt red ,toyota is going through the same thing but by almeans go right ahead and by toyota or chevy but you will be sorry
Sadly toyota Does make a better truck. Toyotas are know for being able to put some miles on. I think ford has been one of the worse, from there record diesel recal, to there tranys back in the day, I'm not saying there not still a good truck. My dad installs flooring, so his F-150 is overloaded everyday and his truck has over 300k with only oil changes, tune ups, and a trany swap.
