I have a 2001, Ford F-150 extended cab, auto trans, 4x2, 4.6(litre), 3.46(ratio) with towing package. I was wondering if i can tow a 6300 lb dozer with an aftermarket receiver. I know it says it can tow something like 7200 lbs as i read in the booklet/manual. But would i be able to tow it? I wouldnt burn up the tranny or motor would i? I wouldnt be towing it but 20 miles every now and then and around a jobsite. I want a daily driver yet dont want to buy a new truck or a bigger one like a F-250. Any help is appreciated

You'll be fine as long as you're under the numbers for your vehicle according to the owners manual. The tow package should include a tranny cooler so I wouldn't worry about the tranny too much. Your biggest problem won't be getting it moving....it will be getting it stopped. I personally wouldn't tow anything over a few thousand pounds without trailer brakes. A decent controller will run you $100-150, and I guarantee you'll never go back to towing without one.

Just take it easy and you'll be fine.

Also when working out the weight you want to tow, make sure you include the trailer & anything else on it. Not sure if the 6300lb above includes this.
