help....what truck to get?

I currently have an explorer with a v8 and its having a tough time pulling my boat (3800 lbs) up hills. I want to get a truck that can pull that, and possibly a new boat (6200 lbs) and can seat 6, but isnt too big/expensive. I was looking at 2002 f 150 supercrew. According to the ford site, it says with a 4.6l it can tow 6200 and with a 5.4l it can tow 8500. What i was wondering is if i should go with the 5.4l, and do i need to get one that has a towing package of anything like that?

Re: help....what truck to get?

If you like the style of your Explorer more than a truck but need more power, go with an Expedition. They can easily seat six and you can get them with an optional third row seat for the "little guys." You can get the diesel, 5.4L and 6.8L V-10 in the Expedition and it'll tow whatever you want.

Nearly all fullsize trucks/SUV's with automatic tranny's come with some sort of "tow package" made up of a tranny cooler, trailer plug, etc. It's all up to you on what style vehicle you want.

Re: help....what truck to get?

The best rule of thumb in any situation is, "Always buy more that what you think you will need." If your now in an Explorer and you think that an F-150 will "do", then spend a few extra dollars and get an F-250. The 250 is a work horse but it is still quite respectful from a driving stand point. If you just need it to bop around town and haul thing from time to time....it can easily do it. But, when you really need to haul or tow something.....your covered as well. I have an F-250 w/ the Triton 5.4 and I'm a victim of my own conviction. I own a lawn/landscaping company and I tow a 24' Haulmark enclosed trailer w/ it. I "thought" that the 5.4 would be "good enough" but I'm kicking myself now that I didn't take my own advice and get the extra power of a diesel. My next truck will definately be a 350 diesel.
Martha Stewart is doing this right about now.....ya' think??? I'm interested to see how she redecorates her prison sell!!!
