How much milage is too much?

I am thinking about buying an 150 supercrew with 180,000 on it. So far there have been no problems with the truck and its super clean. Its an 2001 and almost all of the miles are highway miles. They are asking 7,000 for it, what do yall think, is it near the end of its life? is that too much for that milage? any info at all would be greatly appreciated.

Re: How much milage is too much?

7,000 seems a little high, but that's got to be mostly highway miles, so that's good.

I also think that 180,000 miles is too much but atleast they are all highway miles

Re: How much milage is too much?

if the oil has been changed every 3000k, or somewhere in that range, you should be fine. does the engine use any oil? has the tranny been taken care of? if so, you should be in good shape. the thing is, it PROBABLY wont last without any problems until 300k, but you never know

Re: How much milage is too much?

with regular maintenance you can easily see over 230,000 miles with ease especially on highway use but balljoints and those type things do wear with high milage so expect the truck to have worn parts.
the body condition will tell you alot about how well it was cared for.
IMO you need to look at it as an investment that might need some more $$$ to fix up the things that are worn from the milage.
like maybe in a yr or so you will need to invest $800 to have the tranny rebuilt but it all comes down to what you plan for it and whether you will be willing to put some money into it.
