This weekend my truck failed to start after turning the ignition. I checked the battery and starter, replaced both just in case. Still no luck. There is no clicking when the key is turned, however the rest of the electrical system is working fine. I can start the truck with a remote switch on the starter, this is a little inconvenient because I have to crawl under the truck to get started. Any clues about where to look next???

My truck has the same problem. I have a 87 F-350 diesel and when you turn the key, (although it does the clicking noise), and you turn the key all the way it does not start.
What the guy that owned it before me did was to install a starting switch, I would like to fix mine also.
My opinion is that something has gone bad with the clutch switch. Since you have to depress the clutch all the way for it to start.
I hope somebody here knows the answer.

yeep,look under the dash for a switch attached to the clutch pedal,steering support. My 88 ranger had one here all I did was take a solder less connector and jump it out (no longer a 5 speed).
rush,check the starter solenoid,if it is mounted on the inner fenderwell see if the wire is on the start terminal,if it is the solenoid might be bad.
