info for 1969 f-100 - Ford Forums

seeking answers! I have a 1969 f-100, 302 with a 3spd on the colum,and manual steering. I would like to convert it over to power stering. I have been told several different things. First I was told I have to change colum and steering gear box and could use any out of a ford truck. then I was told only out of a 1968-1969 f-100. next I heard I could just change the shaft and put in a gear box. Last but not least i've ben told if I get a bendex gear box for 1968-1969 f-100 that I could use my existing steering colum. WHERE CAN I GET RELIABLE INFO.

You are talking right up my alley. We do this at work all the time. You can use 1967-79 F-100 power steering box, and yes you do have to change the column too. The power box itself is about 3 1/8" longer than the old manual box so you need the shorter column. The only problem you will face is the 3 speed on the column. Finding a truck with power steering and 3 speed on the column is right out there with that needle in that hay stack. However you can shorten your column, but this is very tricky. You can take some of the distance out of the steering shaft between the box and the column, and take the rest out of the column. This will barely leave you enough room for your 2 shifter arms under the hood not to hit the firewall. You can also change to an automatic, or go to a floor sift to make it simple. thanks for the info. I will probably give you a call for the wiring diagram. I also think I will wait and change the standard shift to an automatic as well since I have to change the colum. If I understand you right, the only difference in the colum will be the wiring the rest should match up to my truck. such as the power steering gear box and colum will bolt up like it was from the factory. the one colum i am finding hard to find is for a 70 f100, power steering and being an automatic. i have the lmc catalog but i am not finding all the parts to rebuild my colum. so i have thought about a floor shift. what do you guys think?

I'm not to sure about it but you could try this. I think it would be alright because they are a sponsor of another good ford truck website. But i would check it out first though. Don't want to see you lose money on some kind of scam.
