K&N air filter question for 2004 - Ford Forums

I just purchased a K&N air filter for my truck, 2004 FX4. I noticed a sticker on the inside of the filter tray that notes not to use a filter without the polyester pad. Ford mentions that a filter without the polyester pad might fuse to the filter housing.

Is this true? How people are running the K&N fitlers without problems?

I think Ford is talking about their filter only...they don't do tests or have any experience with products from other companies. Besides, with the oil on the K&N, I don't see how it could possibly stick or fuse to the housing.
