Re: lifted trucks in australia?

there is a silver V10 Dodge Ram around the Dandenong area.. I think from some sort of customized 4X4 business... It's the biggest one i have seen on the roads, i don't know how it is street legal, it has monster tyres on it!

Re: lifted trucks in australia?

chevypower: i know the guy with the ram, it runs 37" mickey thompson baja claw tyres. it also has about 6" lift. nice...

outback_ute: the green f100 does have 44" tyres, it was featured in an article in 4wd monthly, a few years back. it was helped along the way by wade at f trucks australia. they do a lot of big f trucks in queensland, at least 3 or 4 i know of, with about 12" lift and 44" tyres. btw, they are an advertiser on this forum, so it is good to see they get out and about.

CRUSHU F150, I know you want to go up & not down, but I would like to do what your mate did & get rid of the 4X4 gear & lower my '85 F100 down. Do you have details of what needed to be done to do this? I would be very ineterested in any info on what I need to source.

Exclamation Re: lifted trucks in australia?

hey CrushuF150, after readin the description you have of your truck please allow me to give you a lil bit of advice on your next level of lift and tires. since you mentioned wanting to go up to 44" tires you might want to look into upgrading your axle from the Dana44/9" combo to a set of Dana 60s or a Dana 60/Dana 70 combo..... my older brother owns a 78 ford bronco...hes running around 13"s of lift, 44" Super Swamper tires, along with a big block 460 under the hood....hes gone through one ford 9' rear axle, one dana 60 rear axle and about five dana 44 front axles on his truck before he put a matchin set of Dana60 1ton axles on it.... heres a link to a picture of his Bronco

good luck on your future lift project....

also look into coil spring bucket drops along with wristed radius arms to help achieve your desired height and flex you may want in your truck

Re: lifted trucks in australia?

Yeah, but D60's are pretty thin on the ground here. Would cost me similar money to buy Rockcrusher diffs (bloody heaps!!).
I have swapped in a 14bolt Chev rear diff though, looks like i will be able to play in 2WD, and have to be gentle in 4WD.
I have the Superlift 9" kit fitted, and it has drop boxes for the control arms. I was considering lowering the upper coil spring mounts, to get more out of it.
I also have some Bushwacker Cutout Flares, which should help with my clearance issue.

My mates F150 2WD swap was fairly straight forward, as the chassis is basicly the same. Just need all the 2WD stuff from a donor car.

Re: lifted trucks in australia?

Also, The silver Dodge Ram in Dandenong, has been sold to make way for a F250 (also silver) on 38.5" tyres! Very Cool!!

Re: lifted trucks in australia?

I didn't know about those laws in AUS...too bad you're not here in US. There aren't any laws where I live (regarding lifts, etc.) ; here we're only limited to the size of our wallets. My every-day driver has 6" lift with 35" tires. Several people around here have "monster" lifts with 44's.

Why are there laws there regarding lifts/tires? I don't much see the point. Maybe you could educate me a little...

Good luck with whatever you may do!

Re: lifted trucks in australia?

Yeah, my Nissan Patrol has 5" lift and 35's, but that is about the limit here.

I guess the reason for laws about lifts and big tyres would be about safety issues. Big tyres reduce braking ability (i used to run 38.5" tyres, and could tell the difference in braking). Swampers are crossply tyres, so have dramaticly reduced road ability (important in an emergency. you cant always stay back far enough).

At least, if there are no rules about how high/big you can go, there should be rules about how you can achieve it. Click on the link, there are many reasons why lifts should be regulated, so that at least they are done in a safe way!!
