Lock problem?

I have a 1998 F150 with electronic door locks so I have had
little or no need to use the one key provided by Ford to open the doors with the key.

I have used the key to open both the drivers door and passanger door in
the past, but eventually, the key stopped working in the drivers side.

Then, sometime later, the key stopped working in the passenger side but it still worked in the ignition.

Now, the key will not open any door or the tailgate which was working
till at least a month ago.

So in essense, I have a key that will start the truck, but will not open
any door or the tailgate.

Has anyone heard of this problem before and if so, what is the casue and
the solution.

My electronic door locks still work and the key will start the truck, but now I
can't lock my tail gate or open my doors with the key.

Any and all help appreciated.

Re: Lock problem?

It's funny you sould mentioned that. I have a 99 F150 and my wife says she gets that problem once in a while on the drivers side. I know the keys are "chipped" so I think it's has something to do with it's technologie. Maybe it's not a bad idea to call ford as see what's up.

Re: Lock problem?

My keys are definitely not chipped (meaning they have a computer chip
on them?).

My problem also started on the drivers side, progressed to the passenger side, and then just recently to the tailgate.

I will be making an appointment with my Ford dealer, but I suspect he is going to tell me that all the locks haed to be re-keyed.

Re: Lock problem?

Yeah, I think your right. They only started chipping them in 99, if I'm not mistaken.
