Lost 1-2-3 speed setting on FAN

I have a 06 f-150 supercrew and the fan no longer blows on speeds 1-2-3.
Only 4 works. Last year i lost speed 1...few months later i lost 2...just this week i lost 3...so now my fan is either wide open or off.;

Question is, where could the fault be? You think the actual speed on the mortor is shot? if 4 works, then the fan works...is there something i could look for or test?

Re: Lost 1-2-3 speed setting on FAN

Well, I haven't spent much time with the newer models but...

The way it usually works is the knob you turn diverts electricity into a block of resistors. This resistor block then controls the fan speed. Commonly the resistor block begins to short out. Now you have no resistance and full current is flowing into your fan motor. many times a visual inspection of the resistor will reveal the problem. while the resistor could be integrated into the switch, it is more likely remote mounted... possibly near the fan motor. wish I could tell you where.

btw... first three deftones albums are the best.

It could be a multiple winding motor. In either case. disconnecting the switch, spraying Plastic safe Electronic contact cleaner into the switch then rapidly going through all the positions could get you some or all speeds back, and if any return then It would imply that the problem lies in fact with the switch. In commercial & Industrial machines that statistically is the weakest link.(Wait till clerner evaporates before re energizing.

Re: Lost 1-2-3 speed setting on FAN

I was just looking at a 04 f150 yesterday and it had a resistor in the air plenum right by the fuse panel. The fuse panel is behind the passenger side kick panel. The resistor cluster was in the plastic air plenum just above and to the left of the fuse panel.

Re: Lost 1-2-3 speed setting on FAN

Im going through this same problem right now with my 04 ford f150... I purchased the part and went to put it in. The resistor I pulled out was shaped like a credit card on the side that inserts into the assembly and had a four prong plug on the outside. The part that I purchased was shaped different. The piece I pulled is located close to the blower motor and when you pull it out you can actually see the blower wheel. So my question is... Is the piece I pulled out that looks like a credit card the correct part and I purchased the wrong part or am I pulling the wrong part? thx for the help

Re: Lost 1-2-3 speed setting on FAN

I just had a problem like this with my 07 F-150 and it turned out to be the switch. I found before the new switch if I wiggled the switch back & forth and held it in between detents I could get the fan motor to change speeds for a short time.
