Me again Margaret, lol

Ever heard of Ray Stevens? anywho....I own an 87 inline 6...What can i do to increase MPG and HP without giving an arm, leg and firstborn? Im a ford enthusiast currently driving 93' Explorer Sport Manny tranny. As is the 87 a manual. gotta get a new transmission cuz the one in it does not have fifth gear or reverse...any simple solutions for this dillemma? (who cares about spelling im not in school anymore) Well thanx again people.

reduce weight
if you can, run at 1/2 tank of gas
remove all you can; carpets, door panels, old safes, beer, dogs over 5 lbs...etc. we stripped a 78 Bronco...replaced all interior panels with polyester fabric. Take off any brush guards, roof racks etc.
ch underside for globs of mud; wash off..dont soak electr, connectors.
check plugs, filters, etc.; replace if nec.
check timing... some adj timing till engine pings then retard slightly

for best mpg, maintaini a constant speed between 40 to 50 mph. exc in school zones!..lol
shut off ac & Defroster
ck tire pressure, increase it slightly from "normal"..do this at least once a month and more when temps change in seasons
buy gas when temp is at coolest.
